I started out wanting to draw an owl dressed as a dapper british gentleman. I drew this werewolf instead. Not sure how it happened, the whole time I was painting werewolf, I was thinking to myself how awesome that owl would be. But there ya go, in the evenings my hands just kinda draw what they feel like....not necessarily the things I want to draw. I did get uncharacteristically fussy over the ground cover. It was relaxing, but man...two episodes of Breaking Bad worth of mushroom and grass noodling.

Tito's Christmas card list just got a whole lot shorter. Here is that moment when Tito and Dartanian return from a day's hunt to find their entire village vipermancered. Malfrancis has permanently cursed this village; from the dead sprout new vipers ready to ambush anyone coming to the village's aid. What a jerk. I should mention that the viper's venom attacks the soul. It kills it, leaving the body an empty husk like a zombie. Plus the bodies are really gross looking. All pale like Malfrancis.

Fang, the love interest. When Tito stops in the Grasslands to rest, he meets Fang. She's about his age and has mysterious scars from her feet to her eye. Tito's trained eye immediately recognizes them as mancing scars....in particular...vipermancing. After Tito reveals this to fang and her village, Fang is immediately banished. Now she has no options other than traveling with Tito and Dartanian. Aww yeah kids. We got a hero, an animal sidekick, a princess, and Voldirichisaruman....you see what i did there.

Time to pull this story together.

Eternal enemy of the Firebird clan, Malfrancis comes from the Timoorish wastes where he learned the dark arts of vipermancery. Perhaps the greatest mancer of the day, only those pure of heart (such as our hero) can ever hope to defeat him.

Although, I'm cracking myself up writing this....I'm also thinking that I might be able to make this work. I'm thinkin' I'l do more.

Got watching Tales of Earthsea, ate some room temperature chicken and pasta at ten o'clock, gulped a moutain dew, and this happened. This is young Lord Tito of the Great Firebird Clan. He is the last of the clan and has gone traveling about the world to find the other half of his magical sword. On the way he'll find love, but will no doubt make her mistrust him at first. At least he always has his feathered friend Dartanian! Ah, what crazy adventures they'll have.

He needs a villian to test his pure heart against. I'll draw that next.

This is proof of my procrastination. It was just supposed to be a fun quick sketch, but yeah...i just finished it. Now i have more work tomorrow. But it was totally fun.
I love the idea of the "dork" clique in a school for magic. The idea that there's cool magic and lame magic. Like the football captain shows up on a unicorn to take the prettiest girl in school out on a date. And then there are just a bunch of loser wizards sitting in a basement, using their wands to make fart noises. Sprout and Longbottom are the fart noise wizards...not the ulitmate date unicorn wizards.

I've been having to do alot of digital sketches this week, no color. While I sit here sketching I'm listening to Jim Dale read the Potter series. Made me want to quickly sketch out a Slughorn. I'm actually pretty happy with the way it came out, though Tom there ended up a little too Murdoc for my taste. I've never been a fan of the snake nose thing, so I tried "fangish" teeth and it backfired on me. Anyways, back to work.

So, its not often I have the opportunity to stay at home and work. But today I am, and it is ridiculously loud. Not sure why I've never noticed it before. I think Rancho Santa Margarita has about 1.5 zillion garbage trucks that just handle my block. And 3.6 gojillion motorcycles. But, all that noise gave me some inspiration...so thanks RSM. Appreciate it.

Zombie pirate. Its not that I don't enjoy zombies or pirates, i had just hoped i would be able to dig down deep and really come up with something different tonight. He's actually half cool zombie, and half lame pirate. I really blew it on the outfit, more like Pirate dinner theatre than authentic brigand. For those of you who ask if there's anything i do like..I'm very pleased with his right boot.

A monster, a murdered landlord, a ghost, the Weasley's other neighbor...just anything in addition to this lonely house. I blame all the ham and potato salad; like hammers to the knee of creativity.

I got thinking of DBZ tonight, and how they always have a tiger or a dog as the president, mayor, or any city official really. Always hit me as bizarre, but awesome. Its not like you're a tiger too, you're a regular joe human, just like in your hometown right now...but with a tiger for chief of police. Rest of the police force = human. The chief = tiger.

Hence the lion furiously trying to prepare for his state of the union. Enjoy.

Peer Pressure

So, since even the slightest amount of pressure gets to me, I present you with this little experiment. I've wanted to make a comic for awhile now. Nothing mind blowing, just in a style that fits me, with a story that doesn't suck. Seems like a modest request of myself, yet everytime I've sat down to create that, my brain takes control and turns it into a quest to make the "perfect" project.

So after *cough* years of fighting myself and the failed attempts to create the most perfect work EVAR, I came to a compromise that my brain and i agree on. I'm going to "practice" making a comic with an idea that i don't care about at all. A complete homework assignment for myself. I get to practice all the things necessary for when i actually get a good idea, and it turns out that its pretty fun just to go through the motions.

My office has a rich lore just among its employees, so i borrowed some characters from some lunch time conversations i've had with them, and voila! They write a story for me without it being a real chore, and i get to practice layout, inking, etc. Here's some samples of that:

I picture him living just at the edge of a ancient jungle, close to a tourist town. Maybe one of those cruise ports in South America. Trying to sell rats milk to frightened Midwesterners fresh off the boat for a day of shopping. Thats it.....his backstory is coming together. Perhaps he has befriended a young girl named Lucia after he brought her dead cat back to life. She brings him rotted bread and fish heads in secret after her parents forbade her from every making contact again after the reanimated cat began to decompose on the family couch.

When the bugs begin their nightly song and the moon rises, he squats near a small fire and tells Lucia of a time long ago when his kind ruled this land. He blows a special powder into the fire to conjure visions of this lost kingdom as Lucia watches in wonder.

For his magic powder, Lucia has named him Professor Sprinkles.

There you go...no needing to guess what this guy is all about now.

This marks the final entry in my Twilight postin'. More than three twilight images on one blog could do irreparable harm.

(Twilight Factoid #3) When asking the wife how the wolf dudes get their clothes back after they are exploded to shreds in the initial transformation, I was surprisingly told that they can't get them back. Clothes destroyed. So I asked further, "well they don't just go around naked afterwards do they?"

"No", she replied "they usually carry extra clothes on them..like a pair of cutoff shorts."

"Carry them where," i ask. (thinking also about wallet, cell phone, and keys)

"Like tucked under their fur or a pouch or something...i don't remember. Let me sleep."

Now maybe this picture makes sense.

I tried hard to get that disgusted/confused look that Miss Stewart has captured so well. I think i came close at the very least. (Twilight Factoid #2) Apparently the reason that Cedric Diggory is attracted to her is that her blood smells delicious...like the most delicious thing he's ever smelled? WTF is that?! She dates him after discovering this?

I can see dating a girl that smells like donuts or bacon sure. But i am once again left at a loss at why this sounds reasonable and appealing to women readers.

These are some old things from In the OC for our Bad Movie topic. These belong to two of the worst movies I have ever seen... Dracula 3000 and The Final Sacrifice.

Dracula 3000 was set in space so far in the future that nobody knew what a crucifix was, it also starred Tiny Lister, Coolio, and a very aged and unenthusiastic Erika Eleniak.

The Final Sacrifice was a Canadian film where a young boy was being chased by a group of cultists from a long lost canadian civilization. The boy was protected by Zap Rowsdower the films denim clad hero.
